20Day 1: Kandy
Welcome to Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon and the land where the great battle fought between Lord Rama and Ravana.
On arrival, you will be transferred to the hotel from airport. Check into hotel and get freshen up.
Later we will go to visit Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, a place of compassion where orphan and abandoned elephants are adopted. The playfulness of little elephants will melt your heart.
Then we will visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. What makes it the countries most sacred place is it houses the tooth of Lord Buddha.
Later stroll through the complex and see the cascading beauty of Kandy Lake.
Rest of the day is yours at leisure.
Explore the night life of this happening city.
Day 2: Kandy – Dambulla
Today we will explore the more the city has to offer.
Check out from hotel after breakfast and visit Peradeniya Botanical Garden, spread across 147 acres of land with thousands of species of plants. Feel the freshness in air and calm your mind as you walk through the beautiful lush green landscapes and tree lines.
Then we will proceed to Dambulla and check into hotel and freshen up.
Later visit Cave Temple also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, dating back to first century BCE.
The caves are carved out in a rock which contain statues and paintings of Lord Buddha and his life.
Day 3: Dambulla – Sigiriya – Anuradhapura
Wake up for a wonderful trail to Sigiriya rock fortress, built in fifth century by King Kashyapa I. the fortress includes remnants of a ruined palace, surrounded by an extensive network of fortifications, vast gardens, ponds and the key attraction is frescoes which covers entire western wall of Sigiriya and mirror wall.
After a wonderful excursion to this beautiful rock fortress we will continue our journey to Anuradhapura, the most famed and most exquisite of all ancient sites and the most sacred cities of World Buddhists.
Day 4: Anuradhapura - Pollonaruwa
Today we will check out and visit the gems of the ancient kingdom.
Take first stop at Jaya Shri Maha Bodhi temple, which enshrines the sacred Bodhi tree. This is the sapling of the original Peepal Tree at Buddha Gaya, India in whose shelter Gautama Buddha attained supreme enlightenment. The sapling was said to be brought here by Sanghamitra, daughter of Emperor Ashoka.
Then visit Ruwanwelisaya, one of the largest stupa, built in 140 BC by King Dutugamunu. It is said that two quarts or one Drona of the Gauthama Buddha's relics are enshrined in the stupa, which is the largest collection of his relics anywhere.
Also we will see Isurumuniya, a Buddhist temple. This charming rock temple was built partly into a cave with a lovely pool in the front and a boulder forming the rear wall.
Then visit Archaeological Museum which an interesting collection of artwork, carvings and everyday items from Anuradhapura and other historic sites around Sri Lanka and reflect the grandeur of a bygone era when Sinhalese civilization was at its peak.
Then we will head to Polonnaruwa, the second most ancient kingdom of the country whose Irrigation systems are far superior that it still provide irrigation water to the farmers in and around Polonnaruwa.
Day 5: Polonnaruwa
Let’s discover the glory of this ancient kingdom today.
Visit Gal Vihara, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is the most perfect specimen of Buddha statue hewn out of solid stone Crafted during the reign of King Parakramabahu in 12th century.
Adjacent to it is Lankatilaka Vihara whose main attraction is over 14m high headless Buddha statue. Take a stop at Shiva Devale, a temple built by Chola rulers who annexed Sri Lanka in the late 10th century.
After lunch, explore the Royal Palace of King Parakramabahu originally was a massive wood and stone structure seven storeys in height and residence of the king but only in the ruins today. Immediately to the east of the Palace stands the Audience Hall, used by the kings of Polonnaruwa to summon the nobles of the kingdom and to meet the emissaries from foreign rulers.
At the end of the day enjoy the calmness at Parakrama Samudraya Lake with wonderful views around.
Day 6: Polonnaruwa - Kandy
It’s time to get ready for your return journey.
We will proceed for Kandy and from there you will be transferred to the airport after breakfast.
